How to convert audio to MIDI
Three steps, all on your device. No software to install.
Drop your audio file
Drag in an MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or OGG — or click to browse. It loads locally, never uploaded.
AI transcribes the notes
Basic Pitch detects pitches, onsets and durations right in your browser and draws a live piano roll.
Download your MIDI
Grab the .mid file (and a piano-roll image) and open it in any DAW or notation app to edit and remix.
Why use this audio to MIDI converter
Most free converters make you sign up, cap your conversions, or upload your audio to their servers. This one does none of that.
100% private — no upload
Your audio is decoded and transcribed on your own device. Nothing is ever sent to a server, so even a copyrighted demo or unreleased track stays with you.
Free & unlimited, no sign-up
No account, no daily caps, no watermark on the MIDI. Convert as many files as you want — the tool is just a web page running an open model.
AI pitch detection
Runs Spotify's open-source Basic Pitch neural net — polyphonic and instrument-agnostic, so chords, piano, guitar, vocals and leads all transcribe.
Real MIDI you can edit
Download a standard .mid you can drop straight into Ableton, FL Studio, Logic, GarageBand or MuseScore and edit note-by-note.
Instant & offline-friendly
No render queue and no round-trip. The ~1 MB model caches on your device, so the second conversion starts immediately.
Tunable detection
Dial in onset and note-confidence thresholds, minimum note length and tempo to get a clean transcription for your specific recording.
What you can do with MIDI
🎼 Transcribe a melody
Hum or play an idea, convert it to MIDI, and keep building in your DAW instead of re-playing by ear.
🎸 Learn a riff or solo
Turn a guitar or piano part into notes you can slow down, study and re-voice.
🥁 Reuse a bassline or lead
Lift a monophonic line into MIDI to re-trigger with any instrument or sound design.
📝 Get sheet music
Import the MIDI into MuseScore or your notation app to print readable sheet music.
🎹 Quantize a live take
Convert a recorded performance to MIDI, then quantize and clean it up on a grid.
🎛 Sketch fast
Whistle, beatbox a melody, or play a quick idea and get an editable MIDI seed in seconds.
What people are saying
“Hummed a melody into my phone, converted it to MIDI here, and had it playing back in Ableton two minutes later. The no-upload thing sold me — these are unreleased ideas.”
Bedroom producer
“I drop student recordings in to get a quick MIDI and sheet music. It is the only free converter I found with no sign-up wall and no daily limit.”
Music teacher
“Used it to transcribe a solo I improvised so I could actually read it back. The piano roll preview is a nice touch before you even download.”

Audio to MIDI — FAQ
Is this audio to MIDI converter really free?
Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up, no daily limit and no watermark. The whole converter is a web page running an open-source model in your browser, so there is no server cost to gate behind a paywall.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. Your file is read and decoded locally with the Web Audio API, and the AI model runs on your device. The audio never leaves your computer or phone, which makes it safe for unreleased or copyrighted material.
What audio formats can I convert to MIDI?
Any format your browser can decode — MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A/AAC and OGG all work. For the cleanest result, use a clear recording where the melody or instrument stands out.
How accurate is the AI transcription?
It uses Spotify's Basic Pitch model, which is polyphonic and works across instruments. Clean, isolated parts (piano, guitar, vocals, leads) transcribe best; dense full mixes are harder, as they are for every audio-to-MIDI tool. You can fine-tune onset and note thresholds in Advanced settings.
Can I convert an MP3 to MIDI?
Yes — MP3 to MIDI is the most common use. Drop your MP3 in and download the MIDI. The same works for WAV, FLAC and M4A files.
Which apps can open the MIDI file?
The exported .mid is standard MIDI and opens in any DAW or notation software: Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cubase, Reaper, MuseScore and more.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. It runs in modern mobile browsers too. Larger files take longer on a phone since all the processing happens on your device, but nothing is uploaded.
